Competition entry EDAG GENESIS wins a further award for outstanding design.

Wiesbaden. Last Friday, 27.2.2015, Wiesbaden-based engineering experts EDAG received the iF DESIGN AWARD for their competition entry “EDAG Genesis”. This is already the second award for design achievements that has gone to the EDAG Design Studio and the “EDAG Genesis”, following the “German Design Award” just a short while ago.

For over 60 years, the iF DESIGN AWARD has been a globally acknowledged trademark in the area of outstanding design. The name iF has become internationally established as a symbol for outstanding design achievements.

There were a large number of applicants competing for this coveted label: the international jury of experts had almost 5,000 entries from 53 countries to judge before awarding the coveted seal of quality!

With the competition entry “EDAG GENESIS”, EDAG not only presented a futuristic vehicle sculpture based on the bionic structures of a turtle, but also highlighted the fascinating potential of additive manufacturing(3D printing).

Using this process, it might be possible, in the future, to manufacture complex vehicle structures in one piece, without the use of tools and extensive production technology, and in this way, revolutionise car production.
In addition, the process offers designers and developers unthought of freedom in product development. It might then be possible to take models from nature and apply them to production.

Should it prove possible to implement 3D print processes and technologies of this type in series production in the foreseeable future, this will have far-reaching effects on our society, and may help to preserve our ecosystem. Waste-free, resource-saving production, products on-demandwithout any major warehousing or transport costs, and an improved environmental track record – to name but a few aspects. The jury also spotted this sustainability concept, and awarded it the coveted label in the appropriate category, “Professional Concepts / Sustainability”.

This award is an acknowledgement of the innovative strength and creativity of the EDAG brand.
